Investors may want to wait for all securities to open on the ASX before purchasing or selling ETFs. The underlying securities’ opening prices have not yet been fully determined prior to 10 am, so ETF price market makers are not able to price the ETFs accordingly, meaning the ETF bid/offer spreads will usually be wider in the first 15 minutes of market open due to pricing uncertainty. It is therefore recommended investors trade ETFs on the secondary market between 10:15am to 4pm.
For larger ETF trades (i.e. $250,000 and over), it may be possible to get a Market Maker to offer a tighter spread than what is quoted on the screens.
